Date for your diary. A
meeting for all those interested in public engagement (PE) with STFC science
and technology will be held at the University of Birmingham campus on 21 June
2011. The main aims are to share best practice, discuss the STFC
programme, hear of new developments eg in the social media, and build a
community of practitioners including networking.
All scientists and engineers who
engage with STFC grants, programmes, facilities etc are welcome. We
will also be inviting stakeholder partners such as the IOP, RAS, Royal Society
etc; Diamond Light Source, ESRF, ILL, CERN staff etc; science
communicators who engage with STFC programme, members of the SiS Advisory
Panel, SiS Fellows, PE fundholders, appropriate STFC staff, etc. Facility
users are welcome, and also we plan a special Facility Users’ PE
Symposium in November at RAL, to follow the May 2010 Symposium.
Researchers working in the grant-funded areas Astronomy, Space Science,
Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics are welcome. We especially encourage
early-career researchers to attend.
The programme will include a new
STFC PE Strategic Plan for discussion and a session on new & social media.
Break-out sessions may include PE/Communications training; and one on
‘applying for PE funds’, covering Pathways to Impact, PE Awards,
etc. We will investigate inviting MPs to attend and speak in a panel
setting, giving a political perspective on public engagement, inspiration, STEM
and skills.
A First Announcement coming soon will outline the (free)
online registration procedure.
Do feel free to contact me regarding programme matters.
